More mass graves found in Iraq...
You know all those "Realists" and State-Department-appeasers and "anti-war-activists" and euros and "international community" types and all the others who are AGAINST a muscular and idealistic (ie: Neocon) US foreign policy? Ever wonder what they are FOR?
This is what they are for:
....If the estimated body counts prove correct, the graves would be among the largest in the grim tally of mass killings that have gradually come to light since the fall of Hussein's government two years ago. At least 290 grave sites containing the remains of some 300,000 people have been found since the U.S.-led invasion two years ago, Iraqi officials say.
Forensic evidence from some graves will feature prominently in the trials of Hussein and the leaders of his government. Those trials are scheduled to start this spring.
One grave near the southern city of Basra appears to contain about 5,000 bodies of Iraqi soldiers who joined a failed uprising against Hussein's government after the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Another, near Samawah, is believed to contain the bodies of 2,000 members of the Kurdish clan led by Massoud Barzani, now the leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party.
As many as 8,000 men and boys from the clan disappeared in 1983 after being rounded up in northern Iraq by security forces at the command of Ali Hassan al-Majid, widely known as Chemical Ali. It remains unclear, however, how the victims ended up in the south....[link].
if you press them they always say "Of course we are against Saddam...BUT.." And they get all huffy if you suggest they are "effectively" pro-Saddam. But they were and are--if they were honest they would admit that they would gladly sacrifice a million or so Iraqis if it would put the Democrat Ancien Regime back in power...
Posted by John Weidner at April 15, 2005 09:35 AM | TrackBackActually, my question would be: where were you guys when Saddam was actually killing all these hundreds of thousands of people? Oh, yeah, I remember...you were sending Don Rumsfeld over to shake his hand and let him know you were behind him 100% even as we liberals were trying to make the world realize this guy was using chemical weapons to murder his own people, by the thousands! So, please, save the complaining about how liberals need to be ashamed...we were the only ones making an effort to actually save those people when they were still alive! You conservatives are only glad to see them now, as a prop to justify a war which had nothing to do with them (until those absolutely, for-sure, we know EXACTLY where they are WMD turned out not to exist)...

That's right, and the Left opposed Stalin, too, I suppose, especially in the days of the Russo-German Non-Aggression Pact.
Oh, wait, that didn't happen.
Once again, we see the tired Leftist trope: If you don't oppose all bad guys, all the time, all to the same degree, you're hypocrits, and nothing is to be done.
The idea that one might have one's hands full, that there might be priorities is handily erased and dumped down the memory hole.
Perhaps you've heard of Iran? The mullahs? Perhaps you understand the idea that there might be a prioritization? But tell me, Zoomie, just how many liberals opposed aiding Saddam because he was a bad guy, bent on killing his own? And how many opposed our aiding Saddam because it was US policy?
Somehow, aiding Saddam was "always" opposed by the Left, but opposing the USSR (remember the Cold War?) was never quite as important. Somehow, opposing US sales to Saddam (not arms, but intelligence, mind you) was de rigeur (citations?), but opposing Soviet, French, and Chinese sales (the largest purveyors) never made it onto the radar screens.
Spare me your bleatings.
