"redistributive change"
Barack Obama, just a few years ago:...But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it's been interpreted, and the Warren Court interpreted it in the same way that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties...
And one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, because the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which to bring about redistributive change...
He's a Commie, who wants to destroy our country and way of life. It's that simple.
Hey, my Lefty readers. Obama says: "[the Warren Court] didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution" in favor of "redistribution of wealth." That's obviously what Obama wants. Are you OK with this or not? Yes or no? Show some guts and honesty for once, scrubs, and take a clear stand
Posted by John Weidner at October 27, 2008 03:21 PMThe only thing that surprises me is that anyone is surprised. Maybe it’s because he's my Senator, but this is all old news. When Obama was gearing up to run for the Senate the Illinois GOP was anxious to run against this guy for exactly these kinds of reasons. Painting him as too far left (even by Illinois standards) was going to be pretty easy, and they thought they had a strong candidate in Jack Ryan.
Now it’s time for me to vent. Where was the McCain campaign on all of this?! He had to know that the media would be running cover for Obama. His people should have known about this and put it front and center during the debates and in their campaign ads.
I have always believed that McCain would make a particularly bad president, and this just confirms my fears. The guy clearly can not organize an effective campaign, and pointing this kind of nonsense out would NOT be "mudslinging". McCain has run this whole thing as a tactician (and a bad one) when he should have been battling for the hearts and minds of the electorate. “…break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers?!? Only hard core leftists think like that. It is almost by definition an un-American philosophy. McCain had this kind of material to work with and he spends most of his time boring people to death with policy details?!?
Mike;
And let's not forget that it was the Chicago Tribune that won the election for Obama by unsealing Ryan's divorce records against his and his former wife's wishes. The same paper that doesn't find much of interest in Chicago that involves Obama. Like, say, the Annenberg Challenge records.
Certainly when he was running for the Senate everyone I knew viewed Obama as a Marxist gun-grabber and I have yet to see anything to indicate that was wrong. Unfortunately, I am in the Pauline Keale situation where no one I know is voting for Obama but he's going to sweep the state anyway.
Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at October 27, 2008 05:58 PMAll too true. Gotta love our media. I have toyed with the idea of voting Libertarian as a protest vote since Obama is going to win Illinois by a mile anyway. But I think the most effective way to vote AGAINST Obama is to vote for Palin, oops...I mean McCain.
