Update: A reader e-mails that the photographer’s name was almost certainly U.S. Army Sgt. Greg Heath / 4th Public Affairs Detachment. He sent another photo of the same scene, which I may post soon...

Remember all those America-hating pundits who gleefully predicted that our forces would perish in the snows of Afghanistan like the Russians and the British and everybody else? (A frozen quagmire?)

I googled U.S. Army Sgt. Greg Heath / 4th Public Affairs Detachment, and was browsing through the results - lots of great pictures and interesting articles...anyway, on the 2nd page of results was a link to this snopes.com piece about this exact photo!
