Time for a new banner...

* UPDATE: I've now put in the banner without the fog effect. Any thoughts, anyone? Preferences?

The new banner picture is one I snapped from Golden Gate Heights. Near the top of these steps. I was driving my daughter to karate class, and we were admiring a beautiful sunset. I drove near the top, said, "I'll be right back," sprinted up the hill and snapped some pictures almost at random. One of which I actually liked.

Very nice...I've always loved your banners...

What's up with the fogginess to the lower right? Is that an addition, or was it really that foggy?

The "foggyness" along the bottom is an effect I added, to blend the picture into the white background of the rest of the blog.

In the context it is a wee bit misleading. But fooling the people all the time is the job of us Rethuglican bloggers.

To be honest, that fogginess is kind of annoying - like having a smudge on your glasses or a foggy windshield or something...I want to wipe the screen...

But it's your house, your rules - but if you were running a poll on it, I'd vote for the picture, but against the effect...

When I get a bit of time I'll re-do it without the effect, and we can compare...

Nice picture. I wish there was some spot in the Baltimore area that was half as exotic-looking. It kinda reminds me of the stylized rural scenes in those paintings or posters hung in Chinese restaurants. It just has this Oriental atmosphere to it......

Yeah, I definitely prefer this version - that's a really cool shot! I always dig pictures that have lots of different distinct "grounds" - like, foreground, midground, background, far background - I don't have any idea what the right term is for that, but it's really cool!

...just one reader's vote, which vote doesn't matter anyway, since it's your blog - but yeah, I dig this one!

We get something like that view almost daily—not as dramatic as this one from the top of the hill—but we frequently drive along 19th Ave parallel with this shot. And we may be bogged in traffic and ugliness, but then we see the tops of the bridge towers peeking above the ruck, like a promise of better things.

Often just the tops are visible above a cloud, with the Gate below solidly filled with fog...

Like it better without the fog - But my favorite banner was the one you had when I first found you, the two boys with the lantern and the treasure map - I'm a regular reader - Thanks for the time and effort to keep up the blog

I think I like this better.

My initial response was similar to Hale's. It feels like a fantasy of Asia.
