The University...
Charlene just read me this quote, in the December First Things:
From a Catholic point of view, the contemporary secular university is not at fault because it is not Catholic. It is at fault because it is not a university.
--Alasdair MacIntyre
I'd guess a lot of the sort of people who read blogs would nod in agreement to that. "Something's missing, not sure what it is..."

You can rest assured, however, that many of the students of the school would not have thought so... but many of those were not mentally suited to college in the first place. Trade school, sure, but they weren't there for deeper learning.

By the way, one of my daughters attends a Jesuit university. "Deeper learning" is precisely why we sent here there, and have not been disappointed.
She will be off to Rome in January, and will finish her theology requirement there.
