Home again...

....From a pleasant weekend at Sunset State Beach, near Santa Cruz. It's not a great place to take pictures; like much of coastal California it's rather desert-like and colorless. But the poppies were going crazy...

I was just at Target and saw the Eddie Bauer eight-person three-style tent on sale for about $160.

I remember the canvas monstrosity my family used to have when I was growing up. No floor. Big heavy poles. Thick and unwieldy canvas.

The new tent packed down to about a foot square by three feet long. Probably cost less, too.

It astonishes me how good and cheap so many things are now. It's a great time to be a consumer, and, I suspect, a lousy time to be a manufacturer. No matter how hard you try there will be somebody else selling better stuff for less.
