Fringe madness....
AJ Strata has a good post on the "protesters" at Walter Reed Hospital, Taunting Wounded Heros.
...These soldiers have been injured, some seriously, and these left wing ego maniacs have to go taunt them? Why - to make them feel better? To help them recooperate sooner? To give them emotional support?
The left has always had an incredible cruel streak in them, their desire to be right is so strong they have never really cared who they trampled or hurt along the way. Cindy Sheehan has made her son out to be such an idiot to follow George Bush into battle the poor guy’s reputation as a man of honor, who paid the ultimate sacrifice, is all but gone. For her media addiction she has ruined the memory of her son. So trampling a stranger is no big leap for the left...
...Finally, since the democrats bred this beast of fringe madness, I now call on them to call off these protests. Where are you Senator Clinton? Why are you not supporting our troops now? Where are you Senator Reid? This is not the war in Iraq, this is supporting the troops here at home. Where are you Howard Dean? You say democrats are here to support the troops - get down to Walter Reid and start supporting them...
I call on them too. but I don't expect much from them.
I call on decent people of the "anti-war" left, if there are any, to repudiate this abomination, put a stop to it. You know who you are. The ones who say, "Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home." These guys are home, and your colleagues are taunting wounded people with fake coffins. That's sick! Are you so sunk in lefty craziness that you can't see that? Are you going to start spitting on our soldiers next?
Posted by John Weidner at August 27, 2005 08:25 AM | TrackBackIf it really happened - I repudiate them. It is fair and honest to attack and criticise Bush and his incompetent administration for totally mishandling the war, but you cannot attack the soldiers who honorably fight the war, doing as required of them by the Constitution obeying civilian leadership (no matter how incompetent it might be).
But...that said, I have serious doubts as to the truth of these whacko right-wing claims. First, if such demonstrations actually happened I do not belive it would not be all over the news (even Fox hasn't said boo about it). Second, if there were some minor anti-war demonstrations involving signs critical of BUSH, not the troops, then that is NOT the same thing (dispite you wingers desperately seeking to conflate criticism of Bush as attacking the troops; he ain't "the troops"; hell, when he had a uniform on he hid in Texas rather than actually serve his nation in battle).
Final point - I call on "pro-war" righties to condemn one of YOUR own for attacking our troops: Rev Fred Phelps of Kansas, who has been travelling around the nation and showing up at the funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq, proclaiming the soldiers died "because of fags"!
He and his followers are sick excuses of human beings, but all too much a product of the right!
Hey Zoomie, guess what? Fred Phelps has now invited himself to the Cindy Show too. I guess sooner or later all of those sick-ass losers find themselves on YOUR side of the fence.
Posted by: Huck Foley at August 29, 2005 11:41 AMHey, Huck - read the TRUTH instead of John's repeating any winger lie he can find:
Re: the demonstrators in front of Walter Reed, here is what was said about them in a real news story - "a group of activists are standing nightly vigils at the entrance to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, protesting what they believe is the Pentagon’s attempt to hide the human toll of the war in Iraq.
With wounded troops arriving from Germany, where most receive treatment after being stabilized in the field, flights to the United States are arranged so that soldiers are admitted into Walter Reed for follow on care at night.
“When we first heard about this, we were appalled,” said vigil organizer Gael Murphy, part of nationwide grass roots women’s group dubbed Code Pink. “Why are they bringing them in only at night? Is it because they don’t want the media to cover it? Is it because they don’t want Americans to see the real cost of this war?"...
“The guys in here are the real cost of the war,” says George Taylor, a former Navy officer and veteran of the 1962 Cuban Blockade, shrugging off the night cold among about two dozen activists outside the Walter Reed gates Tuesday night.
Kevin McCarron, a former Marine intelligence specialist and a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War, said he thinks the late-night admittances are a dishonor to the troops.
“They should be feted as they arrive, honored as heroes, not slipped through the back door like this,” he said. "

Note: unlike the winger garbage, they don't "taunt" the wounded. FAR FROM IT!!! They clearly say they deserve to be feted and honored!!!
And the outside story on it, from the Sacramento Bee (http://www.sacbee.com/24hour/special_reports/iraq/bee/story/13489392p-14330073c.html)
Since the spring, long before an angry mom named Cindy Sheehan set up camp outside President Bush's Texas ranch, anti-war activists have been holding vigils outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Friday nights, when many soldiers and their families venture off campus for steak dinners.
They've called for better health care benefits for soldiers wounded in Iraq, protested an early policy of making some soldiers buy their own meals while in care, and accused the military of purposely flying injured troops in under cover of night to downplay the volume of casualties. And they've waved signs protesting the war and the Bush administration.
Organizers say they weren't getting much media attention - even after a pro-war group began gathering to protest the vigils...Until last week, that is. That's when an online news service with politically conservative ties released a special report suggesting the vigils were actually protests aimed at wounded soldiers - an accusation that infuriated vigil organizers, many of them family members of troops serving in Iraq and some of them veterans themselves. The Drudge Report previewed the story, and conservative television and radio hosts seized on it.
Now vigil organizers are alleging that Cybercast News Service's story is part of a strategy by Bush's supporters to hurt war protesters' credibility in the wake of Sheehan's public relations success and sinking support for the war.
Laura Costas of Silver Spring, Md., one of the vigil participants, said her brother served 14 months in Iraq with the Army and was injured when an explosive device hit his unarmored Humvee.
"He feels betrayed," she said. "You sign up to defend the Constitution and you get Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo."
She described a shortage among troops of modern bullet-proof vests, boots, even helmet straps.
She said her brother, now home, must navigate a complex bureaucracy to deal with his hearing loss and post-traumatic stress.
"It's patent nonsense to say a member of a military family who's out here doesn't care about the troops," she said.
The article goes on to point out most of the counterdemonstrators are local area GOP activists, most with no military members in their family (of course not, you wingers love to let others fight and die for you). And that the original CNS story was by Marc Morano, who said "he wouldn't equate what the vigil participants are doing to the way some Vietnam protesters scorned soldiers."
But note that Morano works for a company owned by the far-right Media Research Center, with a proven history of "inventing" stories when it suits them. Oh, and Morano used to work for Rush Limbaugh where I'm sure he learned only the highest of drug-induced ethics...hahaha.
Oh, and then there's the soldier recovering from wounds in WR, who said of the CodePink demonstrators "he said he didn't get the sense the vigil participants were trying to shame him, or blame soldiers for the war."
poor John...blinded by the right, he's unable to do anything except grab a right-wing lie and run with it!
So come on, I call on all those who honor our troops to condemn the lying bullshit of CNS and the right wingers who take a group honoring and fighting for American fighting men, and make up vicious lies to smear them.
Come on, be honest, be Americans, take off the blinders!
Yeah, Huck, be like Zoomie, swallowing any leftist lie you see, because it makes you feel superior to the sheeple!
Posted by: Andrea Harris at August 30, 2005 04:50 AMYes ma'am, sorry ma'am, thank you ma'am, may I please have another?
Posted by: Huck Foley at August 30, 2005 07:40 AMThanks for proving my point that you guys really should all be wearing blinders, like a horse wears.
I provide you with documentation that the story they are taunting our soldiers is untrue, and your reaction? "NaNaNa, I'm Not Listening To You, Na Na Na"
If you don't read it (except in your rightwing make-belive press), it didn't happen, huh?
