Good news
The California Supreme Court has put Prop 77 back on the ballot.
Proposition 77 is the redistricting measure. It would drastically curtail the gerrymandering that protects most incumbents of both parties in California. (Thanks to Bill Q)

Posted by: Andrew Cory at August 14, 2005 02:11 PMGotta love it! IOKIYAR all over again! Four GOP appointed Justices toss out the California Constitution!
CA Constitution says for a referendum to be valid and offered to voters there can be only one version offered up to the voters, and it must be the same one put on the ballot. If different versions are used, and/or the one submitted for the ballot is different, it is invalid and shall not be submitted for vote.
Even Prop 77's supporters admit there were two different versions used to collect signatures, and that both differ from the one going on the ballot. There are at least a dozen differences, and while several are just one or two words that make no difference, in at least one case an entire paragraph was changed.
Plus, one version said panel candidates would be "selected" by judicial council; the other said they will be "nominated" by the council. There's a BIG difference between selection and nomination!
But, as we all know, GOP judges are as activist as they come and routinely invent new interpretations of the law, so long as they work for the GOP! Nothing new...
