A wee drop...
David Terron of The Cabarfeidh Pages kindly sent me some HTML to make this sort of drop cap:
Every government must rest on some principle or passion in the minds of the people....the very definition of a republic is 'an empire of laws, and not of men'. That is to say men are secured in their rights to life, liberty and property by clear and fair laws, falling equally on all, wisely and justly administered. Any society where rights are bestowed as privileges handed down at the whim of a king, or an aristocracy, or even of a popular assembly, is a society of men, not of laws, and a society that will tend inevitably to despotism and repression.Posted by John Weidner at December 27, 2004 09:23 PM | TrackBack-- JOHN ADAMS
